The need for faster access points are growing as the speed of other core networking gear is also improved, but not all companies are ready to take on the giant leap to upgrade their wireless systems. Having different options to choose from when selecting the best access point for your business is the key.  Cisco is offering three different series of Aironet access points . Customers have the option to choose which access point best fits their network and budget needs.

Cisco access points come in three main series. The 1700 series, 2700 series and the 3700 series. The 1700 series AP’s are targeted at an Enterprise Class system (i.e applications that are designed to be scalable across a large organization).

The Aironet 1700 series access point is the entry-level access point offered by Cisco. It takes advantage of the latest 802.11ac technology and is designed to meet the growing needs of small and medium sized wireless networks. It has 802.11ac Wave 1 support with 3×3 MUMO equalization along with Cisco’s CleanAir Express spectrum.  With a theoretical connection rate of up to 867 Mbps, the 1700 series is the perfect pick for a small company looking to expand to a new but low cost wireless platform.

Cisco 2700 series delivers industry-leading 802.11ac performance at a price point that is ideal for dense indoor environments. The 802.11ac Wave 1 standard provides theoretical connection rates up to 1.3Gbps. Which is roughly triple the rates the standard 802.11n AP’s in use. While being backwards compatible with 802.11a and 802.11n 5GHz clients.

the Cisco 3700 series is the industry’s only enterprise class 4×4 MIMO, three spatial stream access point that supports 802.11ac. With 802.11ac wave 1, this series of access point provides rates of up to 1.3Gbps, nearly three times faster than today’s high-end 802.11n access points. The 3700 series is a component of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network which can scale to as many as 18,000 access points with full layer 3 mobility across central or remote locations on the enterprise campus. It is the industry’s most flexible, resilient and scalable architecture, delivering highly secure access to mobility service and applications while offering the lowest total cost of ownership and investment protection by integrating smoothly with the existing wired network .
