The hot-swappable input/output device plugs into a Gigabit Ethernet port or slot, and the optical and copper models can be intermixed with a variety of Cisco products.

This model runs on 1000BASE-SX short-wavelength and supports digital optical monitoring capabilities. This innovation gives the end user the ability to monitor real-time parameters of the SFP, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage.
